Mine Geologist

This Mine Geologist role supports an operating open pit rare earths mine on a permanent basis, working an 8/6 roster, Friday to Friday. You’ll FIFO ex Perth to Laverton, with consistent rotations and a stable site team.

The focus of the role is delivering accurate geological inputs to ensure the right material goes to the right place, every time. Your work will feed directly into ore classification, mining decisions, stockpile management, and plant feed outcomes – making this a genuinely production‑linked geology position.

Day to day, you’ll work across grade control and mine geology activities, including RC drill rig supervision, sampling, logging, ore mark‑up, stockpile tracking, reconciliation support, and geological interpretation. You’ll also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support broader geology projects across site.

The site places strong emphasis on sustainability and responsible operations, and the geology team plays a key role in balancing production requirements with long‑term resource integrity.

This role suits a Mine Geologist with solid open pit experience, strong RC exposure, and a practical understanding of how geological decisions impact downstream mining and processing.

You’ll be comfortable supervising RC drilling, maintaining QAQC standards, managing geological data, and working closely with mining and processing teams. Prior experience in rare earths is important, along with the ability to interpret and manage complex datasets confidently.

To be considered, you’ll need:
  • A tertiary qualification in Geology
  • Demonstrated open pit mining experience
  • Experience working with rare earths deposits
  • Strong RC drilling and sampling experience
  • A manual driver’s licence.
Essential software experience:
  • Surpac
  • Acquire
  • Leapfrog
  • IoGAS
These tools form part of the daily workflow, so hands‑on, current experience is required.

If you’re detail‑focused, technically sound, and motivated by delivering quality geological outcomes in an operating mine environment, this role offers genuine scope and stability.

If you’re ready to step into a permanent mine geology role with clear expectations and real operational impact, we’d like to hear from you.

Unfortunately, MPI Recruitment can only consider applicants with relevant qualifications and experience who are Australian Permanent Residents or hold valid working rights for Australia.
