Reflect, recharge, restart

December starts with reflection and then ends, for us at MPi, looking forward with a sense of optimism. So, what has happened this year?

Firstly, our clients and the big picture financial stuff

Throughout 2017 we saw:

  • The ASX and most global share markets push steadily higher
  • Most metals prices climb steadily higher, as did coal and oil
  • Iron ore embark on a rockier ride
  • Employers become more willing to make permanent appointments but getting tougher with pre-employment assessments
  • Jobseekers being offered better work rosters

And some of the great MPi stuff

  • We visited dozens of different mine sites
  • We made another modest profit and paid another dividend (two years straight!)
  • We continued to try to make a difference — not just do a job

MPi Hall of Fame Inductees

  • Gail Rogers was inducted into the 15 Year Club
  • Sarah Felmingham was inducted into the Five Year Club
  • After 22 years in business, we now have 27 people who have spent five years at MPi, 12 who have spent 10, nine at 15 and four at 20 years

Our Team

We said farewell to some team members this year. There were more people than usual departing this year after a stable period. We thank them all. We also still have four ex-MPiers helping us with remote, part-time work. Despite our longevity statistics, our current team is probably the youngest ever.

Our business progress

After some years under development we made tangible progress across HR Consulting, Executive Search & Consulting, Career Guidance, Publishing and Minedex.

Check them out via the links above.

Our Salary Research and Online Staffing service is nearing completion of development stage one. Stay tuned for more information next year.

Ahead is a VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous) world

We see good times and wonderful career opportunities for our team, as well as for our suppliers, to help take us into some of these new directions — all while strengthening the original business.

But we don’t know what all of these directions are, so we prefer to approach things by ‘embracing fear and newness’.

To you all

Friends, clients, suppliers, candidates, staff and families: thank you for your contribution to MPi and — as always — whatever 2017 delivered, we wish you a cracking 2018 and hope you share our sense of passion, determination and optimism. Have a fantastic, safe Christmas and New Year.

Here’s an idea all mining companies might like to consider when you reflect on those less fortunate

This time of year causes us to reflect on those who perhaps did not have things go so well or on those who might need some help. At MPi we don’t give Christmas gifts, but we do ensure every MPier has a say in charity donation. This began way back in 1999.

The guidelines:

  1. For 2017 the amount is $250.00 per person
  2. It is done in November each year (so most charities have it in time for their Christmas needs)
  3. There does not need to be an MPi 'advertisement” accompanying the donation. The staff member chooses the organisation and we transfer the money.

Below is the list of charities supported in 2017.  They are a diverse cross-section. By supporting MPi, you help us support these organisations. Thank you.
